Checklist Notion du materiel pour un roadtrip moto-camping, avec photo d'une personne chargeant un top-case

What should I pack for a motorbike camping roadtrip?

Estimated reading time : 6 minutes

I'm sharing our packing list with you so that you don't forget anything on your next roadtrip! And as a bonus, at the end of this article: the template Notion that you can duplicate and personalise as you like. Ready to embark on your adventure with everything you need to hand? 🚀

ℹ️ This list is for the summer season. 🌞✌️

Clothing

On a motorbike, space is limited, so we have to make the most of every square centimetre of storage space. It's essential to assess whether laundry will be possible during the trip to reduce the number of items of clothing you need to take with you. Because we're camping, camping equipment takes up a lot of storage space, so we have to make judicious choices and cut back on other items to fit everything in. Prioritising the essentials becomes the key to a successful trip!

As far as pyjamas are concerned, I use the next day's T-shirt, and usually a thin jumper for cooler areas.

Toilet

Now that's a real challenge! When you're used to your well-established cosmetic routine, switching to an ultra-minimalist mode isn't easy. But I have to say that I'm pretty proud of us: we've managed to reduce our toiletry bag to the essentials, while still keeping what we need to feel good. Optimising each product and choosing compact, multi-purpose formats was a real headache, but the result is there! We have everything we need, without sacrificing our comfort, and that's a small victory in itself.

⚠️N don't forget that on a campsite, even a starred one, there's no toilet paper! (in any case, in nearly 15 years of camping between my childhood and today, I've never had a toilet paper provided in the sanitary facilities!)

💡 My little tips :

  • earplugs As I said in our article on the Verdon roadtrip, there are more and more vans and motorhomes on campsites, and the gentle sound of zips has given way to the slamming of doors. And whether it's that or not, tent fabric isn't the best sound insulator! A small bag of earplugs takes up hardly any space and saves you a night!

It took me a long time to find some that fit my ears well and insulate well, but since I found them I've bought a pack every year. A pair can last up to 10 days/2 weeks in daily use. ✓ My earplugs on Amazon
  • flip-flops Are you really planning to go to the shower in your motorbike boots/shoes? 😅 A pair of flip-flops doesn't take up too much space, and can be used on camping trips, at the beach, or during long summer breaks!

Camping equipment

I'll be doing an article later on about our camping equipment, which was great value for money!

But I can already tell you what accessory I didn't think of when I was younger and camping with my parents: the inflator for the mattress.

And then I found a great 4-in-1, which is battery-powered (so no batteries!):

  • inflator
  • deflator
  • lamp
  • external battery

⚠️ inflator ‡ compressor. The inflator here will actually inject air, whereas the compressor (for tyres) will increase the pressure of the air already present! This inflator cannot therefore be used to inflate tyres, and vice versa.

Organisation

When filling the storage spaces, make sure you place essential items, such as the water bottle, in an easily accessible place so that you can access them quickly during the journey.

Think about grouping things according to their use: for example, put everything intended for camping in the same space, and do the same for beach or hiking equipment. This will save you time and stress by knowing exactly where your stuff is when you need it.

For luggage, we have :

  • on the Zontes: a 39L topcase
  • on the Mash: 2 panniers, 10 litres each
  • a 40L waterproof saddle bag
